Locarno Open Doors 2024:Paz Encina's 'The Unique Time' Among 8 Projects Looking for Partners
Paz Encina's latest project, 'The Unique Time,' will be one of the highlights of Locarno Pro's Open Doors program in 2024.
The program, which is now in its third year, focuses on supporting filmmakers from underrepresented regions.
Encina, who was born in Paraguay in 1971, is best known for her 2006 debut feature, Paraguayan Hammock. Her work has been praised for its lyrical beauty and its exploration of social issues.
In addition to Encina's project, seven other films have been selected for the Open Doors program. They include "Eami" by Paz Fábrega, which won the Tiger Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2022, and "Plaza Catedral" by Abner Benaim, which was selected for Cannes' Un Certain Regard in 2021.
The Open Doors program will provide the selected filmmakers with mentorship, networking opportunities, and access to potential funding partners. The program will culminate in a pitching session at the Locarno Festival in August.
The Locarno International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. It is known for its focus on independent and auteur cinema. The festival's Piazza Grande is one of the largest screens in the world, with a capacity of 8,000 seats.
The 2024 edition of the Locarno International Film Festival will take place from August 7-17. The full lineup of films will be announced in the coming months.
