Evan Rodrigues Propels Panthers to Game 2 Win
Rodrigues' Two Third-Period Goals Give Florida a 2-0 Series Lead
Evan Rodrigues became the first player in Panthers history to score twice in the third period of a Stanley Cup Final, leading the Florida Panthers to a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.
Rodrigues' goals gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The 28-year-old centerman now has four goals in the playoffs, including three in the last two games.
"It's an unbelievable feeling," Rodrigues said after the game. "I'm just trying to do my part to help the team win."
The Panthers controlled the puck for much of the game, outshooting the Oilers 34-25. Florida also won the special teams battle, going 1-for-2 on the power play and killing off both of Edmonton's power plays.
"We played a great game tonight," said Panthers coach Andrew Brunette. "We were physical, we were disciplined, and we got some timely goals."
Game 3 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night in Edmonton.
